Home Renovations in Stellenbosch, from Kitchens to Whole Buildings
Stellenbosch packs a lot into a small town. Oak-lined streets in the historic centre hold Cape Dutch and Victorian buildings, student accommodation fills the blocks around the university, Techno Park houses growing businesses, and wine estates surround it all. Home renovations in Stellenbosch can mean anything from a modern kitchen in a family house to a full refurbishment of a student residence.
We take on residential, student and commercial projects across the town, and we plan each one around who will use the space and how hard it will be used. A kitchen for a family of five and a kitchenette shared by six students need very different choices.
Kitchen renovations in Stellenbosch
The kitchen is the room we are asked about most in Stellenbosch. Our partner Kitch Me Up designs and manufactures the cabinetry, including sculleries, pantries and islands, and the plumbing, gas and electrical connections are completed by Core Services, with a compliance certificate for each installation that needs one. Every kitchen is shown in 3D before ordering, so you can test the layout, finishes and appliance positions in advance. Older houses in town often have kitchens squeezed into a back room or a former stoep, and opening them up to the garden is one of the most rewarding changes we make. In newer homes the brief is more often about better storage, a separate scullery and a layout that works when the family cooks together.
- Full kitchen redesigns and scullery additions
- Gas hobs and ovens installed by Core Gas
- New tiling, splashbacks and lighting
- Bathroom makeovers alongside the kitchen
- Glazing and ceiling upgrades
Student accommodation and building renovations
Landlords of student digs and residences need finishes that survive constant use and a programme that fits the academic calendar. We upgrade bathrooms, kitchenettes, flooring and lighting during vacations so rooms are ready for the next intake. Larger building renovations in Stellenbosch, from offices at Techno Park to multi-unit residential blocks, are handled as turnkey projects with partitions, ceilings, electrical work and shopfitting under one contract. Wine estates in the area, including Spier, Lanzerac and MolenVliet, are among NPC’s clients, and the same organised approach carries over to residential jobs in town.
Home renovations in Stellenbosch’s historic core
Parts of central Stellenbosch, including the Dorp Street area, carry heritage overlays. Changes to facades, roofs and street-facing elements may need approval, so we flag this at the site visit and allow for it in the programme. Thick walls, timber floors and original joinery can usually be kept and worked around, and we take care to protect them while new services are installed. The owners of NPC are involved in each project personally. Learn more about our renovations work. HOW IT WORKS
After a prospective client contacts NPC, we will set up an appointment with one of our consultants at a time that is convenient to the client.
The consultant will come out to your premises to conduct a thorough site inspection. This will also give you the opportunity to discuss any pertinent details with him.
A personalised specification and quotation will be drawn up and submitted to the client for their approval. All the specifications will be based on the relevant supplier requirements.
For large projects, we can request the client’s preferred paint supplier to compile a comprehensive specification.
Upon acceptance of the quotation, a proforma invoice will be sent to the client. Among various other details, it will indicate the deposit required before the project start date can be confirmed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long does a kitchen renovation in Stellenbosch usually take?
Timing depends on the size of the kitchen, whether plumbing and electrical points move, and the cabinetry lead time. After a site visit and 3D design, we provide a written programme with the quotation. Ordering Kitch Me Up cabinetry early and sequencing the trades closely helps keep the period without a working kitchen as short as possible.
Can you renovate student accommodation during the university holidays?
Yes. We plan student accommodation upgrades around the academic calendar, using vacation periods for bathrooms, kitchenettes, flooring and lighting. Durable materials are chosen for heavy use and quick turnover. For larger residences, the work can be phased by floor or block, so some rooms stay available if the landlord needs them.
Do heritage rules apply to building renovations in central Stellenbosch?
They can. The historic core, including areas around Dorp Street, has heritage overlays that may require approval for changes to facades, roofs or street-facing features. Interior renovations are often more straightforward. We discuss this during the site visit and build any approval time into the programme so there are no surprises.
