Roof Restoration for Goodwood’s Older Homes and Businesses
Goodwood is one of the more established suburbs on the Voortrekker Road side of the Northern Suburbs, and many of its homes date from the 1940s to the 1960s. A good number of those roofs have been patched over the decades rather than properly restored, so it is common to find a mix of rusted corrugated sheeting, replacement tiles that do not match and old paint flaking off in strips.
Reliable roof painting in Goodwood starts with sorting out that history. NPC inspects the roof, repairs what has failed and then cleans and recoats it by airless spray, whether it is a family home near GrandWest and Vasco or a workshop roof on a light industrial stand.
Common roof problems in an older suburb
After 60 years or more, most Goodwood roofs have been worked on by several different people. When we inspect, these are the issues that come up most often. Many of these houses also have original timber fascias and gutters that have rotted or sagged, which lets water run behind the roof edge. We note those too, because there is little point coating a roof that drains into a broken gutter.
- Corrugated iron rusting at nail holes, laps and along the eaves
- Tiles of different ages and profiles mixed on one roof
- Lean-to and back-room roofs with poor falls and failed flashings
- Several layers of old paint that are lifting and peeling
- Workshop and shop roofs where rust has reached the gutters
Roof painting in Goodwood, done in the right order
The order of work matters more on an ageing roof than a newer one. First come the repairs: replacing rusted-through sheets or broken tiles, refixing loose sheeting and resealing flashings. Next, industrial rotating nozzles strip loose paint and dirt, with hand scraping on stubborn areas. Rust spots are treated, tiles get an anti-fungal wash, and a primer suited to each surface goes on before at least two coats are sprayed.
If a roof is past saving, we will tell you. Sometimes replacing a few sections, or re-roofing a back extension, is the more honest recommendation, and we offer both. For small business owners, we can work in sections so the premises keep trading below.

HOW IT WORKS
After a prospective client contacts NPC, we will set up an appointment with one of our consultants at a time that is convenient to the client.
The consultant will come out to your premises to conduct a thorough site inspection. This will also give you the opportunity to discuss any pertinent details with him.
A personalised specification and quotation will be drawn up and submitted to the client for their approval. All the specifications will be based on the relevant supplier requirements.
For large projects, we can request the client’s preferred paint supplier to compile a comprehensive specification.
Upon acceptance of the quotation, a proforma invoice will be sent to the client. Among various other details, it will indicate the deposit required before the project start date can be confirmed.
THE AIRLESS SPRAY-PAINTING PROCESS FOR YOUR ROOF
Before we start painting the roof, the surface will be prepared by means of a high-pressure wash using industrial rotating nozzles and manual cleaning where necessary. A specialised anti-fungal treatment will then be applied to all the tiled and porous surfaces.
Depending on the type of substrate, specialised primers will also be applied. A minimum of two coats of roof paint will subsequently be applied using an airless spray to ensure a smooth, uniform film thickness.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can rusted corrugated iron on a Goodwood house be painted?
Surface rust can be treated and painted, provided the sheet is still structurally sound. We wire-brush or wash off loose rust, apply a rust treatment and metal primer, then spray two topcoats. Sheets that are rusted through or badly pitted should be replaced first, and we will mark those clearly in the quotation.
My Goodwood roof has tiles of different colours. Can it be made uniform?
Yes. Once mismatched or broken tiles are replaced where needed, a full clean, anti-fungal treatment, primer and two sprayed coats give the whole roof one consistent colour. It is a common request in older suburbs where roofs have been repaired piecemeal over many years.
Do you paint roofs on small business premises in Goodwood?
We do. Shops, workshops and light industrial units along and around Voortrekker Road are well suited to airless spray, which covers large metal roofs quickly. We can work in sections or after hours where practical, so customers and staff are not disrupted more than necessary.
