Goodwood Painters for Businesses and Older Homes

Goodwood is one of the older parts of the Northern Suburbs, and it shows in the walls. Many houses from the 1940s to the 1960s were built without a damp-proof course, or with one that failed long ago, so paint along the bottom metre bubbles and flakes no matter how often it is redone. Along Voortrekker Road, shopfronts and small industrial buildings face traffic grime and long hours of sun.

If you are comparing painters in Goodwood, ask how they plan to deal with the cause of the damage, not just the surface. That question shapes how we price every job in the area, from a single cottage to a row of shops near GrandWest and Vasco.

Commercial painters in Goodwood: shops, workshops and light industry

Business owners here usually want the work done fast and with as little disruption as possible. We split commercial jobs into sections, start early where shop hours allow and keep entrances usable throughout. Large plain walls on workshops and warehouses are sprayed with airless equipment, which applies an even coat quickly and can save up to 80% of the time rolling would take.

Steel roller doors, burglar bars and palisade fencing are cleaned of rust and primed before topcoats, and signage areas can be left masked if a sign-writer is following us.

Older Goodwood homes and rising damp

Painting a damp wall is a waste of money. Where we see tide marks, salt deposits or crumbling plaster low on a wall, we recommend treating rising damp before repainting. Once the moisture source is dealt with and the plaster has dried and been repaired, a suitable primer and exterior system can do its job. Interiors are handled the same way, with affected sections opened up rather than painted over.

Beyond damp, these houses commonly have steel window frames with flaking enamel, timber fascias that have dried out and parapets with open joints. Each gets its own preparation and coating, and we point out anything that needs a builder or plumber before we quote, so you are not surprised halfway through.

HOW IT WORKS

After a prospective client contacts NPC, we will set up an appointment with one of our consultants at a time that is convenient to the client.

The consultant will come out to your premises to conduct a thorough site inspection. This will also give you the opportunity to discuss any pertinent details with him.

l

A personalised specification and quotation will be drawn up and submitted to the client for their approval. All the specifications will be based on the relevant supplier requirements.

i

For large projects, we can request the client’s preferred paint supplier to compile a comprehensive specification.

Upon acceptance of the quotation, a proforma invoice will be sent to the client. Among various other details, it will indicate the deposit required before the project start date can be confirmed.

QUALITY CONTROL

For our clients’ peace of mind, NPC can request one of our suppliers or an independent consultant to do a site inspection and compile a site-specific specification that clearly indicates which products are most suitable for the project and the precise preparation procedures that should be followed.

Regular site inspections by the supplier or consultant and the client can then be scheduled at various stages of the project to ensure that all procedures and standards are being adhered to.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why does paint keep bubbling at the bottom of my Goodwood walls?

In older Goodwood houses this is very often rising damp. Moisture from the ground travels up through the masonry and carries salts that push paint and plaster off the wall. Repainting alone will not hold. The damp needs to be treated first, the plaster allowed to dry and repaired, and then the wall can be primed and painted.

Can you paint my shop on Voortrekker Road without closing it?

Usually, yes. We work in sections, keep the entrance open and can start before trading hours so the busiest part of the day is left alone. Wet areas are cordoned off. For larger premises we agree a short programme upfront so you know exactly which days each part of the building will be affected.

Do you paint factories and warehouses in the Goodwood area?

We do. High walls and ceilings in industrial buildings are well suited to airless spray, which gives an even film and covers large areas far more quickly than rollers. We plan the work around deliveries and shifts, and prepare steel doors, columns and fencing separately so the whole site gets a consistent finish.
